A Wedding Photo Shoot

We had a little photo shoot for the wedding venue to get some images for all of our marketing.  And while this post is to show you all of the pretty pictures of a wedding ceremony and reception the story behind it is so close to my heart.

Do you see all the pretty flowers and decor?  They were curated by a dear friend who has a passion for not just wedding planning, but marriage planning and support for a bride and groom to keep them on track to their ultimate goal of not just getting married, but becoming one and living a full and abundant life together, focused on God and each other with selfishness aside.

An Outdoor dinner party at The Co-Op

Hey guys,

I wanted to share some more photos with you from a dinner party we had last fall.  This was actually done in our backyard as the wedding venue construction had just gotten started.

But the venue is an extension of our home so what better way to give you a feel for the venue than to give you a feel for our home!  Any one and everyone is welcome at The Co-Op wedding and event venue.  Whether your event is a wedding for 200 guests, or a dinner party for 10.  We want to serve you and make you feel at home.

Not a quitter

Life is busy for most of us.  Especially those with small children.  We run from this thing to that, to work, and back home again.  And for my family, we thought it would be a smart idea to add in extra stuff like a massive garden, livestock, acres to maintain, a poultry assortment, a home that needs some minor renovation, and starting a small business or two from the ground up.

Life is busy to say the least.  And stressful.  And sometimes it all creeps up on me and I have to let off some steam and the poor soul who bares most of that brunt is my husband.  He is a saint.  There have been some occasions where other people have seen me at my worst and those are just not my proudest moments.  Lets just say my mom and my mother in law are both wonderful woman who must love me A LOT.

So in these moments of compounding stress, in letting the chaos get the best of me I keep hearing myself and others say things like “you take on too much”  “you shouldn’t do so much” “simplify”  “do you really need to raise your own turkey?”

Pryce Freeman: A birth story

That’s right.  It’s time for me to share with you the wonderful story of my baby boy coming into the world while it’s still somewhat fresh on my mind.  I hope you are prepared for it to get long-winded.  Because it’s the birth of my son and I’ll be danged if I paraphrase just for your reading convenience.  And I mean that with all the love in my heart.  Also be prepared for some tasteful birth pictures.  Having babies does something to a woman.  Modesty is just thrown right out the window.

If you’ve been reading my other posts for a while then you know the saga that was Dottie’s birth story.  If you don’t know, you can read about it here: The PrequelPart IPart II

And just like Dottie’s story, let me start with the background info…

Thank you just isn’t enough

Well friends, it is with great pleasure that the aimless wandering of the Stewart Settlement will soon come to a close.  We bought a farm!  We are still in negotiations and everything but should close toward the beginning of April.  So please keep us in your prayers that everything will go smoothly and we will be getting all settled in this time next month.

Now that you know the exciting news, let me walk you through the mental process that has been the last two months for Dustin and I…

We weren’t just looking for a house, we were looking for a home.  We were looking for someplace to raise our babies.  Both quite soon and literally.  (I’m planning on having a home birth and my due date is May 1st)  We were looking for a place to start fresh, to call our own, to begin something big.  We were looking for a place to bring not just us, but all of our farm critters also.  A place to bring in foster children and start a ministry we feel deeply called to.  A place that Dustin’s mom could move to and comfortably call home (she is currently in Dallas and we can’t wait for her to get her butt up here!)  A place to start our little farmstead adventure in a more sustainable way.  Sure growing my own food is fun, but it ain’t cheap folks.  We were looking for a place to not only feed ourselves, but provide supplemental income in order to have the time and money to do it.

Our first lambing season

Hello friends,

While my heart is still very much heavy and I have one million thoughts I would love to share with you, I thought it was time to lighten things up a bit and share with you what else has been going on in our lives besides the whole, ya know, our house burned down thing.

Ladies and gentlemen may I present… the story of the winter lambs.

It takes a village

So as you may have heard… the Stewart Settlement house burnt down.

But you guys, I LOVE my community. Each and every one of you.  And by that I mean this online community, my church community, my friends and acquaintances in Springfield, friends and acquaintances in St. Charles where we used to live, those in Marshfield where I grew up, those in Texas where Dustin grew up, those that we went to college with, or those that live in community with a random friend or family member of ours.

Everyone. is. awesome.

The past (almost) three weeks have been such an incredibly real picture of the concept of “tag three people and they will tag three people” thing.   You know, that ole cheesy Facebook reference. But you guys. It has happened. In real life. Not just on a screen where people mindlessly click the “like” button.  But in reality, with physical contact and verbal conversations.

With a heavy heart…

My dear ones. There is seriously nothing I can think to say to accurately express all of the feelings going on inside my brain. But alas, I will try to give you some sort of picture of whats going on. I owe you so much more than that but that is all I have to give. I hope you’ve got some time on your hands. Because this is going to get long winded.

Let’s start from the beginning…

Dustin and I moved to Springfield in 2011 because we had dreams for our future which included family, land, and self sufficiency. Our house and jobs in St Charles were quite the opposite of that so we took a leap of faith and moved everything to Springfield so that I could start working in the family business.

The Goats are Growing on me.

I don’t want to jinx myself or anything buuuttt… I think we may be starting to get a handle just a little bit on this whole goat thing. That is at least until sometime in February when we embark on a new experience of birthing babies on the farm. I mean, I’ve birthed a baby here before. But the animals have not. Unless you count kittens. Which we did nothing for. So no, they don’t count. But I digress.

I think we are getting the hang of it because our fence in the goat field has been re-inforced time and time again and I dare say we found all the holes! At least until the goats get super bored and create a hole just for the heck of it.

We are also debating moving them to a different field this winter.  So I’m sure we will have to start the whole process over again.
